【Writing Homework 3】Internet Let People become isolated

    It is a difficult question to judge that internet is helpful or harmful interpersonal relationship. The Internet is a developing global system of interconnected computer networks. After internet creative, “global village” is come true. Many people use the World Wide Web to access news and sports reports, to plan and book vacations. People use it chat, messaging and email to make and stay in touch with others worldwide. Social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace have created new ways to socialize and interact. It looks like internet makes people become close. However, in my opinion, the internet let people become isolated for several reasons.



    The first reason to support the internet harmful interpersonal relationship is that people can get friends in virtual world very easy. They can find their friends who have the same interests or habits on the internet easier than in the real world. They can do anything and speak out what their real thinking on the internet. For example, they can disguise they don’t like the comic “One Piece” in the real world; actually in the virtual world, they may become the fans of “One Piece”. People may think the friends they make on the internet are their real friends, and wouldn’t mind the people who live in real world. Thus, the internet may have some social impact in interpersonal relationship.

    Another reason to support the internet is not helpful interpersonal relationship is that internet would influence family love. Have you ever seen a view that many people eat on the same table but they just look at their cell phone and never talk to each other? This situation may become more and more popular in the future. Because wireless and device technology growing, people can connect internet anywhere. Even people not stay at home, they still can chat with their virtual world friends. And this is the reason why many people sit together but have no common issue. Some family members eat meals or live together, they look like a stranger. Maybe they think the friends on the internet are closer to their mind than their family in the real world.

    The final reason to support the internet may harmful interpersonal relationship is people can buy anything on the internet and reduce the communication to real world people. Following the electronic commerce growing up, more and more people have turned to shopping on the networking. It will replace real world goods exchange. In another way, strange people will have some communicate in shop before, but now the communication will reduce. Thus, maybe people will forget how to talk to others one day. When people get together face to face, they may feel uncomfortable and don’t know how to do. Sherry Turkle, the founder and director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self, stated, “Networked, we are together, but so lessened are our expectations of each other that we feel utterly alone.” However, the internet may be harming interpersonal communication.

    In the end, the internet is becoming more and more important in our life. The convenience of internet give users is people can communicate with others, but it also damages interpersonal communication. The Internet can create alternative friendships between people. But have you ever thinks that the friendship on the internet is true or not? Everyone just only have 24 hours one day, if you spend lots of time on the internet you will lost time get together with your family and friends in the real world. Extend the virtual world to real world will harmful interpersonal relationship and may make people become isolated.
